The Maime estate in Salento is located in the vibrant heart of Apulia in one of the most beautiful areas of Upper Salento. The estate extends along the Adriatic coast and covers an area of about 500 hectares, 350 of which are planted with vines and 85 with olive groves. The Salento peninsula enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and long, hot, dry summers favored by its geographical location and direct contact with the Adriatic Sea. This estate presents a fine combination of innovation and age-old traditions; ancient cultivation methods such as “alberello”, an old Apulian technique used to reduce water consumption to a minimum, exist next to new espalier vineyards, a perfect technical compromise for producing excellent quality wines.
This wine owes its name to one of the most delicious fruits native to this area, the fig, and in particular the fig with a reddish-purple color so intense it almost seems black hence its name in local dialect “moro”.
