Chianti Classico D.O.C.G. “Querciabella” - Querciabella
Querciabella Chianti Classico has been the centrepiece of Querciabella’s winemaking operations since the winery’s start in 1974. With over 74 hectares of prime Chianti Classico vineyards – located in the communes of Greve, Radda and Gaiole – and 32 hectares in Maremma on Tuscany’s southern coast, the winery represents the largest extension of vegan (certified organic since 1998) vineyards in Italy. Their winemaking manifesto condemns the reliance on any agrochemicals.
The Sangiovese vines for this Chianti Classico grow in vineyards with soils composed of clay, sandstone rocks and sands outside Greve in Chianti at altitudes between 350 – 550 m. The grapes were manually harvested and carefully sorted. The wine matured for 12 months in fine to extra fine-grained oak barriques (225 l) and tonneaux (500 l) of which 10% new.
