Verdò I.G.T Sicilia - Barone Sergio
In one of the most charming places in Eastern Sicily, the fertile Valley of Noto south of Siracusa, lies the Eloro DOC zone, one of the best suited for cultivation of the Nero d’Avola and Moscato di Noto grapes. Here lie the Le Mandrie and Gaudioso estates, which have been owned by the family of Baron Sergio for generations. A historical family estate that has been turned into a modern winery under the management of Baron Giovanni Sergio. The ancient outbuildings have been renovated and reorganised to house modern winemaking facilities.
The Petit Verdot vines for the Verdò red wine grow in Barone Sergio‘s vineyards in the Valley of Noto close to Siracusa and near the sea in Southeastern Sicily at an altitude of 70 m. The grapes were harvested by hand, sorted and destalked followed by fermentation on the skins in stainless steel tanks. The wine was matured for 12-15 months partly in steel tanks and partly in French oak-barriques followed by 6-8 months in the bottles.
