The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldi spread their influence as bankers. Later, with the flowering of the Renaissance, they became patrons of major works in Florence. For generations creativity and a quest for excellence have inspired the Frescobaldi family, who has always looked to develop and celebrate the diversity of Tuscany’s terroir. Being proud owners of some of the greatest vineyards and of 7 wineries in Tuscany, they have always sought to maintain the identity and autonomy of each estate.
The vines for the Lamaione red wine grow in the 12 Ha. Lamaione vineyard at the Castelgiocondo winery outside of the town of Montalcino in Toscana. This very special vineyard has soil rich in minerals and organic matter and is spread over soft slopes at a height of around 300 m to the southwest of the town.
The merlot grapes were handpicked and carefully sorted followed by fermentation and maceration on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 4 weeks. The wine was then transferred to mainly new French oak barriques for maturation for 24 months followed by a further ageing period of 12 months in the bottles.
Longevity 10-20 years.
