Bukkuram, from the Arabic “father of the vineyard”, is the name defining the area of Pantelleria preferred in ancient Arab times for the cultivation of Zibibbo grapes (Muscat of Alexandria). It is here, on the only plateau with a South-West exposure on the island, that Marco De Bartoli has both vineyard and winery located, on an area of almost five hectares of land at 200 m above sea level, and where the wine cellar is located in a historic dammuso (typical farmhouse) from the 18th century. The vines for the Bukkuram Padre della Vigna sweet wine have an age of 40-55 years and grow in the rich volcanic soil on the island.
Bukkuram Padre della Vigna is a unique sweet wine with a perfect balance between structure, acidity and sweetness due to the ancient art of sun-drying the grapes. 50% of the grapes were dried in the sunlight for a minimum of four weeks during august. The remaining grapes matured on the plant until September. Once the fermentation had started, the grapes previously dried were added to the base wine and left macerating for about three months, until the perfect balance between alcohol content and residual sugar is achieved.
