The family behind the House of Tasca d’Almerata has been active wine producers for many years. Today it is the 8th generation of the family that manages the 5 estates and 600 hectares of cultivated land with a clear focus on sustainability in all steps of the production processes.
The 15 years old chardonnay vines for the Tascante Chardonnay grow in the volcanic soil in the Contrada Rampante vineyard at the Tascante winery located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna near Castiglione di Sicilia at an altitude of 740 m.
The grapes were manually harvested, sorted and destalked followed by alcoholic fermentation in oak barriques for 12 days at a low temperature of 16-18 C to avoid the malolactic fermentation. The wine aged a further period in French oak barrels and in the bottles before the release.
Longevity 5-7 years.
