The House of Duca di Salaparuta was established in 1824 by Giuseppe Alliata, Duke of Salaparuta, a passionate connoisseur of good wine. He wanted to produce delicate, elegant, “French style” wines, from the grapes of his own estate located in Casteldaccia near Palermo in Sicily. The company’s first wines were born being an absolute innovation compared to the island’s production at that time. Since then the company gradually expanded by purchasing additional land, wineries and wine companies, and today constitute the largest private winery corporation in Sicily.

In 2002 Duca di Salaparuta purchased the Risignolo Estate at Salemi in the province of Trapani in western Sicily. The winery is set in the sun-drenched countryside, chosen for its hillside position which guarantees good ventilation and offers the benefits of proximity to the sea, thus avoiding exposure to excessive heat. In these areas white grapes such as Grillo and Insolia find their perfect habitat and are cultivated in the most natural way possible.

The grapes for Bianca di Valguarnera come from vineyards located at an altitude between 300 and 350 metres. Harvesting was done by hand at full ripening. Following sorting, de-stemming, soft pressing of the grapes and static decanting of the must the wine developed through slow fermentation in oak barriques. The wine was aged on the lees in the barriques for at least eight months. After bottling the wine matured 12 months in the bottles to develop its bouquet.
