Cala Cala Bianco - Terre Siciliane IGT - Azienda Vinicola Calabretta
The Calabretta winery tradition is rooted on Mount Etna. Already in the early 1900s they were producing and exporting large quantities of wine. At the same time, the town of Passopisciaro arose to accommodate the many peasants who were arriving en masse looking for work. This lead to the emergence of many small producers. Today, a century later, Etna is renowned for its wines of character and tradition. In 1997, Massimo & Massimiliano Calabretta built a new winery and started to bottle and sell the Calabretta wines all over the world.
Etna is a volcano of ancient geological origin with an altitude of more than 3.000 meters. The tectonic differences give soils with heterogeneous physical and chemical features. Joining that with different altitude (600 – 1000 m) & sun expositions this give tha basis for producing world class wines with very different characteristics. New Etna Doc lets the producers indicate these differences and the Calabretta Winery produces a broad selection of specialized top wines.
